This poised, kinetic piece is inspired by the childhood toy, bamboo dragonfly. Suspended on a slender stand, it hovers in perfect equilibrium, capturing that magic delight of balancing something delicate on your fingertip. The design is biomorphic in the simplest way, almost weightless, as if it might lift off anytime. A polished metal body forms the center. It resembles a gourd, a Chinese symbol of fortune and prosperity. From it extend connected wooden wings, their veins carved with lifelike detail. Every element speaks. Nothing more than needed. At the tail end lies the chamber. A few drops of essential oil will travel from there through the entire structure and disperse quietly into the room.
