Four of Swords
Perhaps you don’t want to stop what you’re doing, but being forced to rest is a signal from your body or mind. Right now, even lying still feels like sitting on needles. You’ve been halted in place, and all you can do is stare at the ceiling and allow yourself to rest.
This is a form of restraint. Your current mental or physical state is no longer suitable for action, and as the one experiencing it, it feels uncomfortable. The IV bag hanging in midair might make you wish it would drip faster so you can be released sooner—or slower, so you don’t have to face anything yet. It’s like a countdown, a sign that something is approaching.
UPRIGHT
Obstruction, pausing to recuperate, not suited for action or thinking, stillness, listening to the body, personal space, retreat, stopping.
REVERSED
Breaking through, receiving news, a sense of crisis, restless mind, awakening, urgency, taking the first step, going out again.
