The Strength

Element: Fire
The design of the Strength card, number 8, draws inspiration from my favorite Egyptian elements. Heka is the ancient Egyptian god of magic and medicine, and he is also the embodiment of magic itself. He may be the most important deity in Egyptian mythology, yet he is often overlooked because his presence is so pervasive that Egyptologists in the 19th and 20th centuries hardly noticed him. For the Egyptians, heka—or “magic”—was a divine force that existed throughout the universe, much like “strength” itself, which could be embodied by the god Heka. Magic granted power to all the gods, and Heka was also a god of strength. Beginning with the 20th Dynasty, his name became associated with this meaning, and he was symbolically written with the hieroglyph for “strength.”
