Nine of Swords

My damp clothes turned, in the dream, into a quilt weighing a thousand jin. I sank deeper and deeper until I plunged into the lightless depths of the water. The crow who called itself a princess perched on a patch of fresh duckweed, puzzled as to why the duckweed beneath its feet kept trembling and disturbing its rest. It didn’t know that was my final struggle, nor did it know that perhaps it was the last straw that crushed me. It didn’t care. On the surface was a new sunrise. The little island returned once again to peace and calm, yet that was not my sky—I was trapped in an endless night. I knew I might die here, die in my own dream.
