I waded into the reeds by the lakeshore to hide. On a rotting wooden stump lay a witch’s crystal ball, covered in moss. The moment my fingertips touched its icy surface, a crimson mist suddenly welled up inside. In the reflection, countless branches twisted into serpents, flicking their tongues as they lunged at me. Fear closed in around me, yet I knew this was nothing more than an illusion of my own mind. I smashed the crystal ball hard, and everything returned to calm. Weeds curled around my weary body, and I sank into a nightmare.
