Eight of Cups

Departure · Change · Quest · Courage

The cups in this card encircle a single hand, yet the hand turns its back on them—like someone drowning who finally finds the riverbank and pulls away from what once seemed precious. To outsiders it may look ungrateful: “You already have so many cups—why leave?” Only the Eight-of-Cups figure understands the suffocating weight hidden behind that abundance.

Within the cups lies a subtle Saturn glyph (♄), linking the card to Saturn in Pisces and hinting that the cups have become a limitation, a source of distress. Each vessel is shown only halfway, implying the owner’s possessions are far from “perfect” and reminding us that observers seldom see the whole picture.

Associated Sign: Saturn in Pisces
