Seven of Cups
Desire · Illusion · Choices
This card brims with temptation. In my view, each of the seven cups in the traditional Rider-Waite deck corresponds to one of the seven deadly sins—lust (a human head), gluttony (a snake), pride (a glowing figure), and the remaining ones open to interpretation. These sins all stem from unchecked desire, the very essence of the Seven of Cups.
Here, I depict seven hands reaching from the cups, each representing a sin:
Lower left: Lust
Center bottom: Gluttony
Lower right: Greed
Upper right: Sloth
Center: Wrath
Upper left: Envy
Top center: Pride
Their order reflects an ascending gravity of sin, visually forming an "S" for “Seven.” This design emphasizes the card’s core message: when seduced by illusion, we risk losing clarity and purpose.
