Temperance
The symbol on the cup corresponds to the one on the angel’s forehead in the original Rider-Waite card. I personally interpret it as the alchemical symbol for gold—the ultimate goal in alchemy, representing illumination and wisdom. Therefore, the design on the cup is elaborate and ornate. Alchemy itself is a human process, aiming for “transmutation.” The presence of the gold symbol on both cups implies that Temperance holds wisdom and channels the water (like an alchemist) toward the desired goal. This process is not instantaneous—it requires time.
Connecting the white dots in the image forms the constellation Sagittarius. The feathers imply that the hand belongs to an angel.
Irises: They represent the rainbow goddess. In Hebrew, the word for Sagittarius is the same as that for iris, further reinforcing the connection between the flower and the sky—especially the rainbow. A rainbow is a bridge between heaven and earth, gods and people, symbolizing hope, transformation, and a beautiful future. Thus, irises embody the ability to connect different worlds, as well as courage, hope, and wisdom.
