“Why is this… not what I imagined?”

Vision

The gardener is puzzled by the appearance of a potted plant. The diagram shows how it’s supposed to look: lush green branches hanging with golden fruits. The one on the table, however, has strayed from this ideal perfection.

Message

In the original Rider-Waite depiction, a man stares worriedly at his crops. Having done the bulk of the work, he steps back to assess the result, only to find gaps and flaws that leave him dissatisfied. I often draw this card during long-term projects, and I sense many creators resonate with this: a work that seemed adequate yesterday can feel hugely far from ideal upon revisiting, leading to a resolute overhaul even of a nearly finished piece.
