Vision

A teenage girl combs her little sister’s hair. A white bird entering from the right, symbolizing a messenger from the future, clutches a letter from home in its beak. It is likely to disrupt their peaceful life. While this goes unnoticed by the younger sister, who remains blissfully ignorant of the world outside, the older sister freezes involuntarily mid-stroke when sensing this harbinger of change.

Message

The older sister recurs in Queen of Pentacles. She is based on a friend I’ve known for 15 years. She was my protector and mentor in my early teens, as I ventured beyond the familiar confines of school and home. She helped me navigate the city and stay away from any questionable relationships. She assumed the role of an older sister, habitually masking her pain under a veneer of resilience. Eager to grow up, I chafed against the thin fences she erected around her heart. I tried to be more sensitive and to discern the undercurrents of emotion that rippled beneath her peaceful facade.
