Eight of Swords
Will the next step go wrong? Fear of making the wrong choice leads to complete stagnation. You try to sort through the tangled web in your mind, but the more you think, the more hesitant you become. You don’t want to face things, you’re wary of potential danger, and yet you can’t let go and drift freely. The desire to control whether your actions are “correct” has tied your hands completely.
The decorative rope here is known as the “Spider Web.” Once you reach this step, it’s hard to form any new shapes — your fingers can barely move into anything else. Fear of the future being outside your control, comfort in familiar patterns, and self-spun restrictions form the cocoon. A butterfly must encounter the “web” and the “spider” before it flies far, but here they are only accessories. To break free, you must release the imagined fears and obsessions, and bravely face what lies ahead.
UPRIGHT
Feeling fixed in place, no room to move, weakened, sensitive, overthinking, self-imposed restrictions, thinking more than acting, pressure, refusing to respond.
REVERSED
Making changes, letting go, futile effort, breaking free, mental clarity, taking action, careful precision, liberation, relaxing.
