King of Cups

Like viewing a painting through shattered glass, it becomes difficult to recognize the original color and form of the clematis. It seems to have been infused with different emotions, perhaps ones of suffering and strain. Through the fractured glass, you cannot truly see the painting clearly. Even if you know the subject is a clematis, you still cannot fully see the person who created it.
Among the court cards, kings also carry traits of the earth element, symbolizing worldly stability and leadership. The King of Cups may make choices that go against his inspiration or true intentions in order to maintain his status, and such decisions are undoubtedly painful. This card reflects my attempt to imagine what kind of work the King of Cups would create. Behind the polished accomplishments lies the harsh constraint he puts on himself. The countless pieces of broken glass represent his many faces in dealing with people. He may have already become his own “artwork.” Clematis represents purity, a beautiful heart, forgiveness, and also poverty and deceit.
