The Devil
It was once an innocent heart, but life never allows innocence to remain untouched. In the material world, temptations and suffering are inevitable. The golden chain that decorates it so lightly is also the thing that binds it. It can no longer break free. That chain will hold it tightly.
“Temporary desires satisfied only lead to greater dissatisfaction.” These things slowly cloud your heart and hinder your movement, even if the chain rests only lightly. It falls willingly, as though tasting honey. Does it feel empty? The heart is bleeding. It cries for itself, and the blood is the last bit of clarity and innocence that remains. If you continue to ignore it, numbness will eventually take over.
UPRIGHT
A long term bond with the material world, indulgence, or submission to mainstream authority. For example, if a small group is isolating others, this card suggests joining the group for self protection, even if the choice goes against personal will. There may be no better option available. On the positive side, it can represent contracts, mutually beneficial cooperation, and business relationships where both sides restrict and support each other. Upright Devil often brings strong business momentum. In relationships, it commonly represents intense sexual attraction.
Keywords: Material attachment, inner conflict, control, unhealthy patterns, attraction, spiritual emptiness, anxiety, obsession, ignoring the true issue.
REVERSED
Becoming aware of the root cause of the pain. Continuing the earlier example of a small group, reversed suggests resisting such behavior instinctively and seeking a better solution, though there may still be moments of wavering between two sides. In some cases, it can also indicate outward compliance while secretly planning to leave. Reversed Devil is often a valuable chance to break free from the current situation.
Keywords: Opportunity to break free, material lack, subtle control, hidden calculations, identifying the root, recognizing the problem, trying alternative approaches.
