Four of Pentacles

Upright: material gain and stability, being imprisoned by possessions and isolated from the outside world.

Reversed: financial loss or instability, breaking free from material attachment, generosity and liberation.

The princess hides alone in the tall grass, clutching a golden coin tightly in her hands while nervously trying to bury the other two beside her. Her anxious expression betrays her fear of losing even the smallest bit of her wealth. Though rich, she lives apart from others — withdrawn, cautious, and joyless. The Four of Pentacles, often nicknamed “the miser,” depicts one trapped by the very security they seek. The pursuit of stability has become a cage, turning abundance into anxiety. While it can represent the preservation of wealth, it also warns against possessiveness and stagnation — reminding us that true prosperity flows only when shared, not hoarded.
