Seven of Swords

Upright: deception, cunning, betrayal, fighting alone, actions that do not contribute to real victory, resorting to improper means due to lack of strength for direct confrontation.

Reversed: exposure of lies, willingness to communicate, accepting help and collaboration from others.

The Seven of Swords often represents deceit, cunning, betrayal, or trickery. A girl wears a sly smile — these swords she’s taken are her “trophies” of clever maneuvering. Yet even though she’s managed to steal them into her own chamber, she cannot avoid the risk of harming herself in the process. This card speaks of difficult undertakings that require tremendous effort to succeed. Though its meanings are largely negative, there remains a glimmer of hope: a “possibly failing” plan is not the same as a “failed” one — persistence and faith can still lead to success.

The querent may be either the deceiver or the deceived. If you are the one resorting to deception, think twice before acting. If you are the one being deceived, remain vigilant — caution and awareness are your greatest protection.
