Three of Swords

Upright: heartbreak, sorrow, separation, pain, betrayal.

Reversed: healing from grief, emotional recovery, seeking help, mending past wounds.

A heart is pierced by three crossing swords — vivid red, raw, and exposed. The Three of Swords signifies sadness, loss, and deep emotional pain. Despair and disappointment often accompany this card. At some point in life, everyone experiences grief and heartbreak — these moments, while painful, teach us compassion and empathy for others.

When the Three of Swords appears, emotional suffering may be inevitable. Do not reject this pain — avoiding it may lead to emotional stagnation or depression. Retreating from inner pain risks detachment from life itself. Like three sharp thorns, the wound may seem inflicted from the outside world, yet in truth, it is our own sensitive heart that causes the deepest hurt.
