XII. The Hanged Man

Upright: injury, stagnation, transition, quiet contemplation, willing sacrifice, letting go to gain, change through a new perspective.

Reversed: impatience, indecision, selfishness, delay, unwilling sacrifice, effort without reward.

The girl wraps herself gently with a soft ribbon, hanging upside down by one foot between two great rocks. Through this inversion, she hopes to observe the world from a different angle and gain new insight. Unbound by convention and unafraid of others’ gaze, she holds a deep understanding and compassion for the world within her heart. In this inverted world, she resembles a flower bud on the verge of blooming, quietly suspended and waiting for the moment of awakening. The butterflies seem to sense her resolve and courage, fluttering around her in graceful circles — as though awaiting her transformation, her emergence from the cocoon into a new self.
