Six of Pentacles
Element: Earth
Inspired by Père Goriot by Balzac, this card sharply contrasts with the Four of Pentacles. Père Goriot, a once-rich merchant, gave his love and money to his daughters, only to be exploited. He died penniless in an attic. The Rider–Waite card shows a wealthy man giving alms to beggars while still having more. This card explores the polarity of giving—when generosity exceeds boundaries, it can backfire. Like Goriot, one must not overlook human greed or lose control of their power.
