Queen of Swords
In the Queen of Swords’ background, there is only one bird—the fewest among all court cards in the Swords suit. She sits alone atop a high mountain, signaling her mental detachment from others. At least on an intellectual level, she is separated from the crowd.
But this height also represents a kind of trap—her thoughts are free, soaring above the clouds, yet her body remains grounded and immobile. This is a paradox of clarity and helplessness: being fully aware but unable to act.
The butterfly, symbol of free spirit and thought, is the emblem of the Swords court. Having taken shape since the Knight of Swords, here it flutters endlessly around the sword, just like the Queen—sharp and insightful, yet trapped in her stillness.
On her sword hilt is a Cherubim, the angel of cognition and divine wisdom. Inset into the hilt, it implies possessing wisdom but being unable to wield it freely.
