The Empress

Weaving a fertile heart, giving birth to countless sources

The Empress’s bracelet and pendant form the Venus symbol ♀. The symbol, derived from the hand mirror of Venus in Roman mythology, combines a circle and a cross: the circle signifies the sublimation of the soul and the pursuit of love’s essence, while the cross points to concrete values and the material world. With the circle above and the cross below, it shows spirit transcending matter.

The star-shaped pendant alludes to Venus as the “morning/evening star,” and the Empress’s hand rising through it expresses her command of this energy. Roses bloom all around, signifying abundant love and plentiful resources. In her palm she holds a globe—an independent little world filled with trees and wheat—echoing the original Rider-Waite image while highlighting her creativity, inclusiveness, and power to nurture.
