Four of Pentacles

Astrology: Sun in Capricorn | Element: Earth | Time: January 10 – January 19

Ashou is a cabinet spirit. The drawer is his true form. He was a wedding gift from the husband to the wife. When their relationship broke down and both owners left the house, he had nowhere to go and was placed in a high attic. From that moment on, he pondered every day: why was he left here alone? Maddening loneliness and desire consumed him.

Each night, he secretly wandered through the house. He saw the new male owner kiss the wedding ring on the female owner’s hand. Envy filled him, and he quietly took the ring, saying that in this way, he too possessed someone else’s love and kisses. He saw the child studying diligently every night, achieving excellent results. As the family celebrated, he took the books the child had read, believing that this would make everyone embrace him as well. He then noticed a small fish swimming on the table, admiring its agility and joy. After many attempts, he finally froze the fish in a block of ice and secretly brought it back into his drawer. He put a smiling paper bag over his head. At this moment, he believed himself to be the happiest in the world.

Symbolism:

The Cabinet Spirit with a Paper Bag: Represents a soul that clings tightly. The paper bag painted with a smile mirrors the traditional Four of Pentacles king, symbolizing someone who possesses resources but refuses to let go, deeply dependent on material security and emotional attachment.

The Key: The first symbolic pentacle. The key hidden inside the cabinet indicates self-enclosure. Once the cabinet is closed, it can only be opened from within, representing rigidity, defensiveness, and self-imposed confinement.

The Ring: The second symbolic pentacle. It represents dependence on material and emotional attachment, the desire for love and possession.

The Book: The third symbolic pentacle. It represents restricted thought and wisdom. Covered in spider webs, it implies neglect and unused knowledge, symbolizing limited understanding and constrained thinking.

The Goldfish: The fourth symbolic pentacle. It represents wealth in stagnation and eventual loss. No matter how tightly one clings, change and loss may still occur.

The Cabinet: Symbolizes a sense of security and protection, echoing the city in traditional imagery. It also represents isolation and withdrawal from others in order to guard possessions and oneself.
